What is a Urologist?

Urologists are surgeons who specialize in the diagnosis, medical treatment, and surgical procedures relating to the kidneys, bladder, adrenal glands, and male reproductive system. Among the specialized areas with which urologists treat are infertility, reproductive medicine, prostate cancer, benign prostate diseases, incontinence, impotence, kidney stones, bladder cancer, urinary infection, vasectomies, vasectomy reversals, trauma to the kidneys and bladder and pediatric re-constructive surgery.

As with other medical specialties, urology requires study and training beyond the standard medical school and internship years. Because of so many remarkable advances in recent years in diagnosis, treatment, and surgical procedures, it is vital that our urologist be committed to the process of continuing education.

Once a person has graduated from medical school, he or she becomes a medical doctor qualified to practice medicine. Only by completing 5-7 years of surgical training followed by written and oral examination is a doctor considered a board-certified urologist. All of our Surgeons are Board Certified in the field of Urology.
