The physicians at Wheatfield Pediatrics specialize in the care of children from birth to age 21.
Our physicians, nurses and office staff are committed to providing the best possible medical care for your child in a professional, yet caring and compassionate manner.
We encourage the development of healthy lifestyles in our young patients. We perform well-child examinations and immunizations in accordance with the schedule recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics. In addition, other services we offer within the practice are two lactation consultants to assist nursing mothers, one licensed mental health counselor and two certified asthma educators. Wheatfield Pediatrics was also recognized as a Breast Feeding Friendly practice in 2014.
Of course no one plans to have a sick child; therefore we are usually able to schedule you a "same-day" sick appointment. If you must cancel an appointment, please notify us at least 24 hours in advance. A $30.00 service fee will be charged for all no-show appointments. Please make every effort to be on time for appointments; we will also try to see you for your appointment promptly.
Prescription refills should be requested during regular office hours. Refill requests received after 5:00 pm Monday - Friday or on the weekend will not be refilled until the next regular business day.
In addition to our usual daytime hours, we also offer evening and Saturday morning hours. We encourage patients to schedule regular check ups in advance. There are various times during the year where there is a rush of requests for school physicals and sports clearance examinations. Please make sure you do not find yourself in a position, which the child cannot return to school or sports because of medical clearance. We try our best to accommodate all requests, but sometimes it may be impossible. In the event of an emergency during hours that the office is not open, please call our main telephone number and you will be directed to our answering service who will either direct you to the provider on-call or our after hour nursing triage service through Night Nurse so you may discuss your concerns. Unless you feel your child's illness may be life threatening, we encourage parents to call us prior to seeking Emergency Room treatment so we can coordinate your care.
The doctors at Wheatfield Pediatrics have hospital affiliations with the Kaleida Health System, including Children's Hospital of Buffalo and Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, as well as Sisters of Charity Hospital. Should your child require more specialized care than our office can provide, we work closely with many of the various specialists and pediatric facilities throughout Western New York.
Walk-in Urgent Sick Care Clinic
What is it?
Our walk-in clinic was established in an effort to offer a new and convenient alternative for sick visits of currently established patients of Wheatfield Pediatrics between the ages of 2 months through 20 years of age in order to accommodate the busy schedules of their families.
When is it available?
This service is available Monday-Friday from 7:30 – 9:00 am. There is no walk-in clinic available on Saturdays. All appointments must be scheduled.
How does it work?
There is no need to call for an appointment during the clinic time – simply register at the check-in window as a “Walk – In Visit”. Your child will be seen during this time in the order of their arrival.
How long will I have to wait?
Our providers work quickly to accommodate patients in a timely manner while providing quality care. Due to the flexible and open schedule of the walk-in clinic, we are unable to guarantee wait times. Wait times will vary based on the number of children needing to be seen during a given day during the walk-in hours. Wait times may also vary depending on the season. We thank you for your patience and understanding.
What is I am still waiting to be seen and it is 9:00?
Have no worries! As long as you have checked in before 9:00 am you will still be seen by a provider in the order of your arrival.
What provider will I see?
Our medical providers take turns seeing patients during the walk-in time. You cannot choose the provider you will be seeing during the walk-in time.
What illnesses can be addressed during walk-in times?
In order to ensure efficiency of walk-in services for all of our patients, we do not address behavioral, developmental, chronic or long-term medical problems. We also do not perform school or sports physicals during walk-in time. This clinic DOES address urgent minor illnesses of short duration such as:
- Cold Symptoms
- Diarrhea and Vomiting
- Urinary Tract Infection
When should I call the office to schedule a sick appointment?
If there is a more complex non-urgent medical problem we ask that you please schedule an appointment with our office so our providers can allow more time for you. Some of these concerns include:
- Abdominal Pain
- Breathing Issues
- Open Wounds/Suturing
- Behavioral Concerns
- Anxiety and Depression
- Children With Special Healthcare Needs
- New Patients
