It is difficult to believe that September is already here.  Summer is ending and as we enter the fall season, we all continue to experience changes in our lives and routines related to the ongoing COVID pandemic.

We understand that COVID has a seasonal variation and will continue to impact us with the upcoming flu season. We strongly encourage all of our patients to receive an influenza vaccine this year. This will help minimize potential infection with influenza and moderate symptoms. It takes about 2 weeks for the vaccine to develop antibodies and we therefore recommend for your protection that you get your vaccine sooner rather than delay getting one later in the season.

The options for influenza vaccine this year include either a quadrivalent vaccine or a high-dose quadrivalent vaccine. For patients over 65 or those with chronic illness, we prefer the high-dose quadrivalent vaccine. Because of potential shipment delays and increased demand of the high-dose quadrivalent, if the high-dose vaccine is not available, the quadrivalent vaccine is very acceptable and should not delay you from getting vaccinated.

For your safety and to reduce wait times, we will be scheduling specific flu clinics for our Signature Care patients. Flu shots will also be offered at scheduled visits. Call our office at 919-660-6746 to get an appointment for a nurse visit flu shot. These options are designed to minimize your wait in the office. Alternatively, the vaccine can be obtained locally through your pharmacy.  No order is needed for the flu vaccine.

We continue to ask that you wear a mask, social distance as appropriate and wash hands frequently to avoid virus transmission. These behaviors will help decrease spread of both COVID and influenza over the next several months.  We will continue our expanded screening for both staff and patients and clinic room cleaning processes during this time.

As we enter the fall season, we also understand that there will be concerns about in person office visits. We do not want you to put off visits to monitor chronic disease or delay preventive services.  We are available through video telehealth visits to address your needs in lieu of an in person visit.  Please feel free to ask our desk to schedule this option if needed.

Finally, we will be providing extended access for routine and urgent care needs as we reopen our South Durham office beginning in October.  More details will be coming in the next several weeks.

We thank you for your continued support and allowing us to participate in your healthcare.  Please feel free to contact us if you have questions.
