A Common Disinfectant Could Affect How Well Your Liver Works

According to a study presented today at ASPET 2026, exposure to benzalkonium chlorides (BACs) - a type of disinfectant widely used in consumer products, medical and commercial settings - caused changes in gut microbiome composition in mice, as well as the genes that encode for liver enzymes that metabolize drugs.
