STUB1 Pathway Shields Neurons After Spinal Cord Injury

A research team has identified a protein-based defense pathway that helps neurons resist ferroptosis, an iron-dependent form of cell death, after traumatic spinal cord injury (SCI). The study shows that STIP1 homology and U-box containing protein 1 (STUB1) preserves sirtuin 6 (SIRT6), enabling it to activate nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (NRF2), a central antioxidant transcription factor.
