Updated KDIGO Guideline Recommends More Personalized Treatment for Anemia in Chronic Kidney Disease

The 2026 Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO) Clinical Practice Guideline for the Management of Anemia in Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) calls for a more individualized approach to treatment, including tailored decisions on when to start anemia medications and preferred use of intravenous iron for patients receiving hemodialysis. A synopsis of the guideline highlighting the primary recommendations regarding the use of iron, erythropoiesis-stimulating agents (ESAs), and hypoxia-inducible factor-prolyl hydroxylase inhibitors (HIF-PHI) is published in Annals of Internal Medicine.
