Tailored ACT+ Therapy Helps Cancer Survivors Reconnect with Valued Living

A research team found that Acceptance and Commitment Therapy Plus (ACT+), a psychological intervention tailored for people living with and beyond cancer, was perceived as a meaningful and acceptable form of support by survivors experiencing reduced quality of life. Mindfulness practices and activities focused on "doing what matters" were especially valuable, helping participants manage difficult thoughts and emotions, regain confidence, and take practical steps toward personally meaningful goals. The findings could inform the integration of flexible, person-centred psychological support into post-treatment cancer care pathways, provided that therapists receive appropriate training and evidence from the wider clinical trial supports its effectiveness.
