New study of bacterial genome could lead to better TB drugs

Rockefeller researchers created the first comprehensive map of interactions among genes essential to the survival of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the bacterium responsible for tuberculosis. To enable the study, the team refined a CRISPRi-based platform they initially developed for tuning gene expression, extending it to support large-scale perturbation of gene pairs. Their platform has already revealed four new synergistic drug combinations and predicts dozens more, offering scientists a new path to combat antibiotic resistance.
