Avoid taking other medicines within 2 hours before or after you take aluminum hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide, and simethicone. Some antacids can make it harder for your body to absorb certain medicines, especially antibiotics. What is aluminum hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide, and simethicone?Aluminum and magnesium are naturally occurring minerals. Aluminum hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide are antacids. Simethicone allows gas bubbles in the stomach and intestines to come together more easily, which allows for easier passage of gas. Aluminum hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide, and simethicone is a combination medicine used to treat heartburn, acid indigestion, upset stomach, and bloating caused by gas. Aluminum hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide, and simethicone may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide. What should I discuss with my healthcare provider before taking this medicine?You should not use aluminum hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide, and simethicone if you are allergic to it. Ask a doctor or pharmacist if it is safe for you to take this medicine if you have: - kidney disease; or
- if you are on a low-magnesium diet.
It is not known whether aluminum hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide, and simethicone will harm an unborn baby. Ask a doctor before using this medicine if you are pregnant. Ask a doctor before using this medicine if you are breast-feeding a baby. Do not give this medicine to a child younger than 12 years old without medical advice. How should I take this medicine?Use exactly as directed on the label, or as prescribed by your doctor. Do not use in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended. The chewable tablet must be chewed before you swallow it. Shake the oral suspension (liquid) well just before you measure a dose. Measure the liquid with a special dose-measuring spoon or medicine cup. If you do not have a dose-measuring device, ask your pharmacist for one. An antacid is usually taken only for a short time until your symptoms clear up. Do not take this medicine for longer than 2 weeks in a row without medical advice. Call your doctor if your symptoms do not improve, or if they get worse while using aluminum hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide, and simethicone. Store at room temperature away from moisture and heat. Do not allow the liquid form of this medicine to freeze. What happens if I miss a dose?Since this medicine is used when needed, you may not be on a dosing schedule. If you are on a schedule, use the missed dose as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. Do not use extra medicine to make up the missed dose. What happens if I overdose?Seek emergency medical attention or call the Poison Help line at 1-800-222-1222. What should I avoid while taking this medicine?Avoid taking other medicines within 2 hours before or after you take aluminum hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide, and simethicone. Some antacids can make it harder for your body to absorb certain medicines, especially antibiotics. What are the possible side effects of this medicine?Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficult breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Stop using aluminum hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide, and simethicone and call your doctor at once if you have: - bone pain, muscle weakness;
- confusion, changes in your mental state, seizure (convulsions); or
- pale skin, feeling light-headed or short of breath, rapid heart rate.
Less serious side effects are more likely, and you may have none at all. This is not a complete list of side effects and others may occur. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects.
