Matthew  A.  Berger, MD

Dr. Matthew Berger has been practicing psychiatric medicine since 1989, with a special interest in forensic psychiatry.  He currently serves as the medical director for the geriatric psychiatric unit at Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton, Pennsylvania. 

Satish K.  Mallik, MD

 
Dr. Mallik joined the practice of Matthew A. Berger, MD, PC in 2013.  He has been practicing psychiatric medicine since 1997; serving adolescents, adults and the geriatric population in a private, out-patient setting.  Dr. Mallik formerly served as Medical Director for an in-patient Psychiatric Unit.

Kristie M. Nardell, MD

The psychiatric practice of Matthew Berger, M.D. is happy to announce the addition of a new full-time board certified psychiatrist specializing in children and adolescents. 
Dr. Nardell has recently relocated after having been employed at First Hospital as director of both the children and adolescent unit since 2001. 
Dr. Nardell is a graduate of Penn State University College of Medicine, completing a residence at Penn State University Department of Psychiatry. 
Dr. Nardell specializes in children and adolescents, working with a wide variety of patients including those with mood, anxiety, attention and affective disorders. 

Teresa Clark, CRNP

Teresa joined Dr. Berger's practice in 2010 as a certified nurse practitioner.  She completed her associates degree in nursing in 1993 at Luzerne County Community College and undergraduate and graduate degrees in 2001 at Misericordia University with a masters degree in nursing with a specialization in family practice.  Teresa's previous experience includes working in physical medicine, rehabilitation and pain management and has been certified in rehabilitation since 1995.  Teresa provides patients with medication management services and specializes in adult psychiatric and mental health issues. 
 

Marian Farrell, PhD, PMHNP, BC, CRNP

Marian joined Dr. Berger’s practice in 2008, as a part time nurse practitioner/therapist.  Marian received her PhD from Adelphi University.  Marian received her Post Master's Certificate Nurse Practitioner in Adult Mental Health Psychiatric Nursing from Drexel University.  Marian provides patients with medication management services and specialized in Adult Psychiatric and Mental Health Issues.  Marian also provides patient with psychotherapy services by appointment.

Rachel Galati, RN, MSN, CRNP

Rachel joined Dr. Berger's practice in 2011 as a full-time certified registered nurse practitioner.  She completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and her Master of Science in Nursing at the University of Scranton in PA.  Rachel also has experience in family medicine and emergency medicine.  She provides patients with medication management services and specializes in Adult and Adolescent Psychiatric and Mental Health Issues.


Laurie E. Healey, MSN, RN, CRNP

Laurie joined Dr. Berger's practice in 2016 as a full time Certified Family Nurse Practitioner. She completed her Associate’s and Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Pennsylvania College of Technology where she graduated Magna cum laude.  She acquired a Master of Science Degree from the University of Phoenix with a focus on Nursing Education.  She graduated from the University of Massachusetts-Boston with a certificate in Family Nurse Practitioner and was then inducted into the Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society of Nursing.  Laurie has 13 years experience in the hospital setting specializing in cardiac care; three years working in a cardiology office; and two years working as a clinical instructor and home health nurse with adults and children.

Jessica Sabato, CRNP

Jessica joined Dr. Berger's practice in 2013 as a full-time certified registered nurse practitioner. Jessica completed her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing and her Master’s of Science in nursing both at the University of Scranton and is certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. Jessica provides psychiatric care and medication management for adult and geriatric patients in both outpatient and inpatient settings.

Daryl Krouse, PA-C

Daryl joined Dr. Berger's practice as a full-time Physician Assistant in 2013.  Daryl received her Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Montclair State University.  She also received a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Studies and Master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies from Kings College.  Daryl provides psychiatric care for adult and geriatric patients in both outpatient and inpatient settings.

Julie Oja, PA-C

Julie joined Dr. Berger's practice as a full-time Physician Assistant in 2013.  She completed the Physician Assistant Program and received her Bachelor of Science degree at MCP Hahnemann University in Philadelphia, PA.  Julie provides psychiatric care for primarily adult and geriatric patients in both the outpatient and in patient settings.

Melanie Priebe, PA-C

Melanie joined Dr. Berger's practice in 2013.  She graduated from King's College Physician Assistant Program in 2001 with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Physician Assistant Studies - Cum Laude.  Melanie has worked in the field of psychiatry for over 8 years and provides medication management services to adults with psychiatric disorders in both the inpatient and out patient settings.

Gene O'Donnell, LCSW, PA-C

Gene joined Dr Berger's practice as a full time physician assistant in 2013.  Gene received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology/Physician Assistant from King's College in 1980.  He received his Masters degree in Social Work from Marywood University in 1988.  He has 32 years clinical experience working at Community Mental Health Center, before joining Dr Berger's practice.  Gene provides medication management and specializes in Adult Psychiatry.
 
Tracy Jayne, PA-C

Tracy joined Dr. Berger's practice in 2014.  She received her Bachelor of Science in Medical Studies in 2012 from King's College.  Received her Master of Science degree in Physician Studies in 2013 after completing King's 5 year accelerated program.  Tracy provides psychiatric care for adult and geriatric patients in both outpatient and inpatient settings.  

Amanda Fidiam, PA-C

Amanda joined Dr. Berger's practice in 2014 as a full-time Physician Assistant. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Science from Marywood University in 2010. She received a Master of Science degree in Physician Assistant Studies from Marywood University in 2011 after completing the five year accelerated program. Amanda provides medication management and specializes in pediatric psychiatric and mental health issues.

Dayna Ruhf, PA-C

Dayna joined Dr. Berger's practice in 2014 as a full-time Physician Assistant. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from The Pennsylvania State University in 2010. She received a Master of Science degree in Physician Assistant Studies from Misericordia University in 2014.  Dayna provides medication management and specializes in adult and pediatric psychiatric and mental health issues.


Joseph Feistl, PA-C

Joe joined Dr. Berger's practice as a full time Physician Assistant in 2015. He received his degree in Physician Assistant Studies from The Pennsylvania College of Technology in 2013. He has been practicing psychiatry in both the outpatient and inpatient setting and has 2 years experience in providing medication management and specializes in adult psychiatry and mental health issues."

Matthew Vinnacombe, PA-C

Matthew joined Dr Bergers practice in 2015 as a full-time certified Physician Assistant. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Clinical Laboratory Science from Misericordia University in 2007. He received a Master of Science degree in Physician Assistant Studies from  Misericordia University in 2014. Matthew provides medication management and psychiatric care to adult & pediatric patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

Michelle Baker, PA-C   

Michelle joined Dr. Berger's practice in 2015 as a full time physician assistant.  She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Studies in 2003 from King's College.  Received her Master of Science Degree in Physician Assistant Studies in 2004 after completing King's 5 year accelerated program.  Michelle provides medication management and specializes in pediatric psychiatric and mental health issues.  Sarah joined Dr. Berger's practice in 2016 as a full time Certified Family Nurse Practitioner.  

Sarah Kemick, MSN, RN, CRNP

She completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Marywood University and was inducted into Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society of Nursing during that time.  She obtained her Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Scranton with specialization in Family Practice.  She has previous experience working in community mental health.  Sarah provides patient medication management services and specializes in adult psychiatric and mental health issues.

 


Outpatient Therapists

Marian Farrell, PhD, PMHNP, BC, CRNP

Marian joined Dr. Berger’s practice in 2008, as a part time nurse practitioner/therapist.  Marian received her PhD from Adelphi University.  Marian received her Post Master's Certificate Nurse Practitioner in Adult Mental Health Psychiatric Nursing from Drexel University.  Marian provides patients with medication management services and specialized in Adult Psychiatric and Mental Health Issues.  Marian also provides patient with psychotherapy services by appointment.

Tina Gordon, Licensed Marital & Family Therapist

Tina joined Dr. Berger’s practice in April of 2010, as a part-time marriage and family therapist.  Tina graduated from Phillips Graduate Institute, California.  Tina specializes in addiction issues, domestic violence,  gay and lesbian issues, as well as marital and family therapy.  Tina provide patients with psychotherapy services by appointment. 

Martin Kravchick, Licensed Clinical Social Worker

Martin joined Dr. Berger’s practice in 2008, as a full time social worker.  Martin received his Master in Social Work as Adelphi Univerity in New York.  He has over 20 years post graduate clinical experience and has achieved numerous certificates.  Martin has also lectured at several institutions including the National Conference on Child Abuse and neglect.  Martin provides patients with psychotherapy services.   

Anne Krupa, Licensed Clinical Social Worker

Anne joined Dr. Berger’s practice in 2001, as a social worker.  Anne received her degree from Marywood University and specializes in grief therapy, individual and couples therapy.  Anne also has experience in drug and alcohol therapy.  Anne provides patient with psychotherapy services by appointment.  Nights and weekends available.

Donna O’Donnell, MA, Licensed Professional Counselor

Donna joined Dr. Berger’s practice in 2005 as a full time therapist.  Donna received her Bachelors of Science degree in Social Work and Sociology from Kings College.  She received her Masters Degree in Psychology, clinical concentration, from Marywood University.  She is a board certified psychotherapist and a licensed professional therapist.  Donna provides patients with psychotherapy services. 

Andrea Oravec, Licensed Clinical Social Worker 

Andrea joined Dr. Berger’s practice in 2002  as a full time social worker.  Andrea received her degree from Marywood University and is currently a member of the National Association of Social Workers.  Andrea specializes in individual, family and couples therapy.  Andrea provides patients with psychotherapy services by appointment.     

Priscilla Pancoast, Licensed Clinical Social Worker 

 
Priscilla joined Dr. Berger's practice in 2011 as a part time social worker.  She received her MSW from Hunter College School of Social Work in New York City and completed post graduate training in Cognitive Therapy with Arthur Freeman, Ed D.  She has over 35 years as a clinical therapist providing individual, couples, parent-child and family therapy.  Her areas of interest include depression, anxiety, anger management, chronic pain management, and couples counseling.  Priscilla uses and eclectic approach to counseling with an emphasis on cognitive therapy.

Joan M. Rogan, Licensed Clinical Social Worker

Joan joined Dr. Berger's practice in 2011 as part time social worker. Joan is Board Certified Diplomat in Clinical Social Work.  She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Syracuse University and her Master of Socal Work degree from Boston University.  Joan specializes in individual, family and couples therapy.  Joan is a DOT Substance Abuse Professional Evaluator.  She has over 40 years of post graduate clinical experience.  Joan provides patients with psychotherapy by appointment.

 
Robert Tryzenski, MA, Licensed Professional Counselor

Robert joined Dr. Berger’s practice in 2009 as a therapist.  Robert received his degree from Marywood University with additional education at Philadelphia Child Guidance Center.  Robert’s specializes in treating anxiety and depression in adults, children and adolescents .  Robert provides patients with psychotherapy services by appointment.

Mary Keegan, 
Licensed Clinical Social Worker

 Mary joined Dr. Berger's practice in 2013 as a part-time social worker providing psychotherapy services to adults with mental health issues. Mary received Bachelors Degrees in Human Services and Sociology from The University of Scranton and attained her Masters of Social Work from Marywood College. She has practiced social work in hospital and behavioral health settings over the course of the last thirty years and holds the BCD (Board of Clinical Diplomate) credential. Her areas of interest include grief and loss issues, depression and anxiety and she particularly enjoys the gero-psychiatric realm of practice.

Kelsey Nataupsky,  Licensed Marital & Family Therapist

Kelsey joined Dr. Berger's practice in 2014 as a full time marriage and family therapist. Kelsey graduated from Syracuse University with her master's degree in marriage and family therapy and is currently a member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists.  Kelsey specializes in trauma, sexual abuse, parent-child relationships, and working with couples. Kelsey provides individual and family therapy by appointment.

 
Karlene Albrecht, MA, ATR-BC, Licensed Professional Counselor
 
Karlene is a recent addition to the practice and is available by appointment.   She completed a bachelor’s of science from Kutztown University and a Master of Arts from Marywood College. She has over 25 years as a clinical therapist providing individual, group, and parent-child therapy.  Karlene’s experience is varied with diverse populations  but specializes in children, adolescents and their families.  She is also a board certified, registered art therapist and uses an eclectic approach to counseling with an emphasis on psychotherapy.


Judith Cowley Scheatzle, PSYD, Licensed Professional Counselor

Judith Cowley Scheatzle received a master’s degree in mental health counseling from Marywood University in 2002 and a doctoral degree in clinical psychology from Capella University in 2010.  She received clinical training in individual and group psychotherapy at Clarks Summit State Hospital, Veteran’s Hospital of Wilkes-Barre, and First Hospital of Wyoming Valley. Her doctoral research on the effect of stress on heart rate variability was presented at a national conference of the Association for Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback.  
 
Dr. Scheatzle is board certified and licensed as a professional therapist, specializing in evidenced-based treatment of mental health and stress-related issues in adolescents and adults. 

Jennifer Julstedt, Licensed Professional Counselor

Jennifer joined Dr Berger’s practice in 2015 as a Licensed Professional Counselor.  Jennifer obtained her Bachelors of Psychology at East Stroudsburg University and received her Master’s degree from Walden University.  Jennifer has been working in community mental health agencies helping children with mental health difficulties and their families.  Jennifer worked with children with various diagnosis such as Borderline Personality Disorder, Bi-Polar Disorder, Anxiety, Depression and ADHD.  She feels that helping children when they are young will allow them to have a more productive and successful life.  Jennifer has conducted group, individual and family therapy.  Individual therapy includes children and adults.  After 10 years in the mental health profession, Jennifer is excited to switch gears and start in a private practice.

Amanda Rosentel, Licensed Clinical Social Worker
 
Amanda received her Master's in Social Work from Marywood University. Her professional experience consists of working with children and families in elementary schools throughout Luzerne County.  She serves populations consisting of children, adolescents and adults through individual and family counseling.  Amanda specializes in anxiety, depression, anger management and behavioral management.

 
JoAnn M. Crisafulli, MSW, CAADC.LPC
 
JoAnn  joined Dr. Berger’s practice in 2015, as a Licensed Professional Counselor.  She is a graduate of Marywood University and possesses both Bachelors, as well as a Master’s degree in Social Work.  JoAnn has over 20 years of experience in the mental health field as well as addictions.  She has also taught college level courses at Penn State University Worthington Campus, Dunmore, PA.  JoAnn is a Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor specializing in issues with addictions; she also has varied experiences in the following areas:  martial/couples, family/divorce, anger management, depression, anxiety, as well as grief and loss issues.  Her primary goal is to assist individuals with various counseling needs to help promote a healthy well-being, insight into challenges, offer coping strategies, and overall empowerment to access one’s opportunities.  The population she currently serves consists primarily of adolescents and adults through individual and family counseling.  JoAnn provides patients with psychotherapy during evenings/Saturdays.

Marietta Scalise Warnitsky, LCSW, QCSW

Marietta was a member of Dr. Berger’s practice from 2003- 2011 and has recently re-joined the practice. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a Qualified Clinical Social Worker. She has worked as a psychiatric social worker in a variety of capacities in the mental health field throughout her 25 + year career.
Marietta has a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Therapy from College Misericordia, Dallas, PA and a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Marywood University, Scranton, PA. She has also worked as a social work educator for 15 years at both the undergraduate and graduate levels . Additionally, Marietta has presented various seminars and workshops on a national, state and local level for many years. She has been a member of NASW (National Association of Social Workers) for over 25 years and currently is serving a second term on the NASW-PA Executive Board of Directors as Secretary.
