Welcome to The ACP Advocate
It was great to have the chance to meet so many of you a couple of weeks ago in New Orleans at Internal Medicine 2012. Today’s first two stories are about new policy papers that we released at that meeting. The first, Reforming Medicare in the Age of Deficit Reduction, is all about changes that we think need to be made to the program to help it remain solvent and effective. The second paper, Strengthening the Public Health Infrastructure, examines where we think our public health system needs to be improved and what the financial impact of those improvements may be.
Our final story today relays to you information about two new CMS programs that are aimed at controlling costs through care coordination. The Comprehensive Primary Care Initiative and the Medicare Shared Savings Program both were started as part of the health care reform law. We believe that these programs have the potential to reduce costs while at the same time improving care for patients and we’re excited to see them kicking off.
